Before You Call

Try these first. Seriously.

A lot of "broken" systems are really a tripped breaker or a dead thermostat battery. Give these a quick check. If it fixes it, awesome. If not, we're one call away.

Smell gas or see smoke? Skip the list, leave the house, and call your gas company or 911 first.

  1. Check the thermostat Make sure it's set to Cool and a few degrees below room temp. Swap the batteries if the screen is blank.
  2. Look at your air filter A clogged filter can choke airflow and even freeze up the coil. If it's gray and dusty, change it.
  3. Check the breakers Your indoor and outdoor units usually have separate breakers. Flip any tripped ones fully off, then back on once.
  4. Peek at the outdoor unit Clear away leaves, grass, or anything blocking it. If the fan isn't spinning, that's our cue.
  1. Check the thermostat Make sure it's set to Heat and a few degrees above room temp. Fresh batteries fix more than you'd think.
  2. Change the air filter A dirty filter can make a furnace overheat and shut itself off for safety.
  3. Check the breaker and switch Most furnaces have a light switch style power switch nearby. Make sure it's on and the breaker isn't tripped.
  4. Make sure the gas is on If you have gas heat, check that the valve to the furnace is open and your other gas appliances work.

  • Short cycling Kicks on, shuts off, kicks on again. Over and over.
  • Strange noises or smells Banging, squealing, buzzing, or a musty or burning smell.
  • Water & drain issues Puddles near the unit, a clogged drain line, or a full pan.
  • Electrical parts Bad capacitors, contactors, motors, and wiring.
